I still remember the moment I discovered house sitting. Caro and I had just started seeing each other, and I wanted to visit her in Bochum for two weeks. The problem? Hotels were €120 to €200 per night. For a two-week stay, I was looking at close to €2,000 just for accommodation.

I was researching cheaper options when I remembered hearing about house sitting. I typed "house sitting Bochum" into Google and clicked the first result.

A Trusted House Sitters listing appeared. A home with two cats, posted just minutes earlier. And the location? Five minutes from Caro's apartment. It felt like it was meant to be.

I clicked "Join Now," quickly filled out my profile and initial message, and sent it. A few hours later, I got a message asking for a video call. That sit changed everything.

The membership fee? €96 after a discount code. The hotel alternative? €2,000. When you look at it that way, the cost wasn't even a consideration.

That was June 2023. That first sit with Michelle and her two cats in Bochum was the start of this entire journey. Fast forward to today, writing this from a sun-drenched apartment in Athens with 2 cats and a cute french bulldog, and I can tell you: joining that platform was the best financial decision I ever made.

If you are currently sitting on that same fence, wondering if you should commit, we want to help nudge you over and save you some money in the process. We know that every dollar counts when you are planning an adventure.

The Short Version: Here is Your 25% Off

✅ Verified & Working: February 17, 2026

Unlike the fake "80% off" codes you'll find on coupon sites like PromoPro or WorthEPenny (which either don't work or have expired), this is a real, working affiliate discount verified today.

Let's not bury the lead. You are here because you want to save money on the membership.

If you use our link, you get a 25% discount applied automatically at checkout.

Important: This 25% discount applies to your first year only. Renewals return to full price. We mention this upfront because transparency matters more than conversions.

Why are we sharing this? Full transparency: when you use our code to get your discount, Caro and I get two free months added to our own membership. It's a win-win. You save cash, and we get to stay on the road longer, creating more guides and answering your questions.

The Math: What 25% Off Actually Saves You

Using our code drops Premium from $259 to $194. That's a $65 saving.

Here's why that matters: Basic and Standard both charge a $12 booking fee per confirmed sit. Premium has no booking fees.

Your $65 discount essentially covers:

  • 5 booking fees if you choose Standard instead of Premium

  • The entire price difference between Basic ($129) and Standard ($169) and still leaves you $25

If you plan to do 5+ sits in your first year, the Premium discount brings it close to Standard pricing while giving you unlimited booking fees. Our platform costs breakdown shows exactly when each tier makes financial sense.

Is the Membership Fee Actually Worth It?

A common question we get is how long it takes to recoup the investment. The answer: usually one sit.

My first sit in Bochum is the perfect example. Hotels in Bochum were running €120 to €200 per night. For my two-week visit, that would have been close to €2,000. The THS membership cost me €96 after the discount code.

One sit. €96 investment. €2,000 saved.

Everything after that first sit? Pure savings.

Since then, we've stayed in homes across Europe that would rent for €100 to €600 per night. A three-story chalet in Switzerland that rents for €650/night. A beach house in Australia. Apartments in Bari, Lullin, and now Athens.

Compare this to other travel costs. We used to spend a fortune on accommodation. Now, our biggest expense is usually just the travel to get to the sit. Our complete cost breakdown shows exactly how the numbers work out across different travel styles.

The Black Friday Dilemma: Should You Wait?

We often get asked if it's better to wait for Black Friday to get a potential 30% discount rather than the standard 25% we offer.

Here is my honest take: It's a gamble.

If it is November 20th, sure, wait a few days. But if it is July? The 5% difference amounts to the price of a sandwich and a coffee. By waiting, you are missing out on months of potential sits.

The best sits often get booked months in advance. While you are waiting to save an extra $10, someone else is securing that dream villa in Tuscany for the summer. The sooner you are on the platform building your profile, the better.

How to Make the Most of Your Membership

Once you have used the discount code and signed up, the real work begins. Paying the fee gets you in the door, but it doesn't guarantee you a sit. You need to stand out.

1. Build a Stellar Profile

Your profile is your resume. It needs to scream "trustworthy." We see so many people put up one blurry photo and two sentences about liking dogs. That won't cut it.

You need to showcase your personality. Are you neat? Do you love hiking with dogs? Do you work remotely? We have a detailed guide on creating a killer house sitting profile that helps you convert applications into interviews.

2. Verified Reviews are Gold

The currency of the house sitting world isn't money; it's trust. The platform relies heavily on reviews. When you are new, this is the hardest hurdle.

We recommend looking for short, local sits to start. This builds your review count quickly without the commitment of a flight. Once you have 3 to 5 five-star reviews, the world opens up.

3. Communicate Like a Pro

I cannot stress this enough: over-communicate. From the moment you apply, you should be professional and warm. When we apply, we send a custom message using AI to help craft it, referencing the pet's name and specific details from the listing.

If you are worried about the interview process, remember that homeowners are just as nervous as you are. They are handing over their most prized possessions (their pets and home) to a stranger.

What If I Need Help?

This is where Caro and I try to be different. We aren't just a faceless blog throwing links at you. We are real people living this lifestyle right now.

In the world of AI, I (Konrad) am actually the one chatting via the chat option in the bottom right corner of our website. I really am here to assist you. If you send me an email, you get a response from me.

We want this website to be the ultimate encyclopedia for house sitting. Whether you are confused about insurance coverage or trying to figure out looking after dogs versus cats, we are building the resources to help you.

Why We Chose Trusted House Sitters

We have tried several platforms, and while there are great regional options like Aussie House Sitters for Australia or specific house sitting websites in the UK, Trusted House Sitters remains our go-to for international travel.

The sheer volume of sits is unmatched. Whether we are looking for long term stays to hunker down for a month and work, or a quick city break, THS usually has the most options. Our full THS review breaks down exactly what each membership tier includes.

A Note on "Free" Travel

It is important to have the right mindset. While we call it "free accommodation," it is an exchange of value. You are providing pet care and home security.

There is a difference between pet boarding and house sitting. In boarding, the owner pays cash. In house sitting, they pay with their home. You need to take the responsibility seriously. If you treat it purely as a free hotel and ignore the pets, you will get a bad review, and your journey will end pretty quickly.

However, if you love animals, it doesn't feel like work. Cuddling a cat while watching Netflix or taking a dog for a walk in the Swiss Alps? That's a pretty sweet deal.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How exactly do I apply the discount code during the checkout process to ensure the 25% reduction is correctly deducted?

It is very simple. If you sign up using the link provided in this article, the 25% discount is automatically applied to your final price at checkout. You don't need to copy-paste a specific text code or enter anything manually. The discount is embedded in the affiliate link.
Important note: The 25% discount applies to your first year only. When you renew, the price returns to the standard rate ($129, $169, or $259 depending on your tier). We mention this upfront because we believe in transparency over tricks.

  • Based on your experience, how many nights of house sitting does it typically take to break even on the membership cost after using this discount?

    For me? One sit.

My first house sit was in Bochum, Germany for two weeks. Hotels there were €120 to €200 per night, so I was looking at close to €2,000 for accommodation. The THS membership with the discount code cost me €96.

One sit saved me €1,900+. Everything after that was pure profit.

For high-end locations like the Swiss chalet we stayed in that rents for €650/night, you break even in a single night. For more standard sits, it usually takes 2 to 3 nights to recoup the membership cost compared to hotel prices. Plus, you get a full kitchen and laundry, saving you even more on food and services.

Our house sitting cost breakdown shows real numbers from 15+ sits across different countries.

  • Does the homeowner pay for the house sitter on Trusted House Sitters?

No, Trusted House Sitters operates on a trust-based exchange. The annual membership fee is the only cost for both parties. No money is exchanged for the sit itself, which keeps the focus on the mutual benefit: pet care for a free place to stay.

  • Is the insurance included with a Trusted House Sitters membership enough?

This is where most people get confused, so let me be very clear.
THS offers two separate protection plans:

For sitters: The Accident & 3rd Party Liability Plan covers incidents where the homeowner's pet injures someone or damages a third party's property while in your care. Maximum coverage: $1,000,000. Sitter contribution: $50. This is discretionary (not guaranteed) and does NOT cover damage you cause to the homeowner's property.

For homeowners: The Home & Contents Plan (underwritten by GUARDHOG) covers the homeowner's belongings if a sitter accidentally damages them. Homeowners file claims under this plan, not sitters.
What this means: If you break the homeowner's coffee machine, your THS membership does not cover it. The sitter liability plan only covers pet-caused incidents involving third parties.
You should always carry your own personal liability insurance from your home country. Many Renter's or Homeowner's policies include worldwide liability coverage. Additionally, your own travel insurance covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and personal belongings.
We cover this in detail in our insurance coverage guide. The short version: THS membership alone is not comprehensive insurance. You need your own coverage.

  • How quickly can I get a house sit after joining with the discount?

It varies depending on your profile's quality, your flexibility, and how many sits you apply for. With a well-crafted profile highlighting your experience and reliability, some sitters land their first sit within a few days or weeks of joining.
Our guide on writing winning applications can speed up the process significantly.
